"The responsibility for addressing concerns about proportionality has largely been assigned to the Ad-Hoc Sanctions Working Group, a subcommittee created at the start of Howard’s term. Chaired by Will Hancock, vice chair for the undergraduate community and third-year College student, SWG is tasked with improving and designing procedures for a panel for sanction — the stage in a case where a panel of five Committee members reviews evidence, hears arguments for sanctions and decides on an appropriate outcome. SWG also works to draft new sanctions and refine existing ones to address gaps in the current sanctioning system...
Hancock said that the Committee’s processes will change with the evolving needs of the student body, and that there is no perfect standard for sanctioning. While the Committee is working to refine its overarching sanctioning philosophy — outlining which sanctions to use and the reasoning behind them — he said this philosophy might evolve over time to reflect changes in the student body’s perspectives on fairness, accountability and restoration within the honor system."

"According to Will Hancock, vice chair for the undergraduate community and third-year College student, the Committee established three goals for the week — to educate the community about the Honor System, to receive student feedback on the work of the Committee and to host meaningful events that promote the Committee to students and organizations.
'This year in particular, I think we're focusing a lot on partnerships and organizations' Hancock said. 'So not just the [Contracted Independent Organization] dinner, but a lot of other things we're doing this week involve club sports and other groups on grounds.'
Hancock also described how this year’s Honor Week is also set to focus more on engaging students and spreading information about Honor’s role in the community rather than purely as a platform to support the multi-sanction or case processing systems, which was the case in previous Honor Weeks."

"The Honor Committee met Sunday and voted to pass new sanctioning bylaws that were first introduced in their Oct. 6 meeting. The bylaws outline a pre-sanctioning process where the Counsel for the Community — the support officer representing both the reporter and the Community of Trust in an Honor trial — has the opportunity to present their own arguments in a Panel for Sanctions, rather than relying solely on the reporter's input. This change addressed concerns that the reporter’s perspective has been overemphasized and the Community of Trust’s interests have been underemphasized in the sanctioning process...
Will Hancock, SWG chair, vice chair for the undergraduate community and third-year College student, said that the pre-sanctioning documents are submitted electronically via email and will not interrupt the pre-sanctioning process — documents that are not submitted won’t be included in the sanctioning process."

"Will Hancock, vice chair for the undergraduate community and third-year College student, said that the new proposal brought together valuable aspects from the competing December proposals as well as creative additions from Committee members.
'I think this really ended up working, and a lot of that was some of the ingenuity or openness to the new [IR form] idea,' Hancock said. 'That wasn’t included in anyone’s plan in December … coming in with some new ideas really allowed us to [pull] good values from each of [the plans].'"

"Will Hancock, senior educator and second-year College student, won first place in the art competition. Using words from James Hay’s piece “The Honor Men,” Hancock’s poem narrates the journey of a student who violated the honor code and is eventually reintegrated into the University community."
“[The poem] follows the story of someone who has been forced out of our Community of Trust, and the beauty of welcoming them back in as a community,” Hancock said. “There is something about us kind of knitting this community together and one that accepts people, and brings [them] back in.”

"The restorative seminar is a student-led initiative, functioning as a rehabilitative course for individuals found guilty and issued the education sanction. A new element in the multi-sanction system, the course is designed to initiate dialogues on the principles of honor, offering students a platform to reaffirm their commitment to the University community. The seminar was proposed by Will Hancock, senior educator and second-year College student, last April."

"Will Hancock, senior educator and second-year College student, said Honor Week is designed to improve student understanding of honor proceedings under the new multi-sanction system."

"There's that little bit of uncomfortability, but there is [also] that uncomfortability with the broken bonds of the Community of Trust,” Hancock said. “There wouldn't be an easy solution because the course is constructed as a seminar where you're talking through these issues."
Ashley Mosby - April 17, 2023
"William Hancock, Honor educator and first-year College student, presented a proposal to the Committee to create an rehabilitative academic course that would serve as the education sanction under the new system."
